Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics of Chinese Academy of Science (short for Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics), which was founded in 1964, is the earliest and biggest special research institute set up for the development of laser technology in China. Currently it has grown into a comprehensive and multiple disciplines featured scientific research base, internationally influential, oriented to modern optics, giving priority to the exploration of significant, fundamental and leading edge technologies, development of large scale laser engineering technology and pioneering into the applications of laser and photoelectronics technologies. The institute has at present more than 900 employees, among whom there are 5 academicians of CAS, 1 academician of CAE, more than 60 researchers and over 200 associate researchers and senior engineers.

| Shanghai Institute of Nuclear Research of Chinese Academy of Science was formally founded in August 1959. At the beginning, the institute put emphasizes on fundamental researches in subjects including nuclear physics, radiation chemistry, nuclear electronics, accelerator technology, radiation dose protection and monitoring etc. and, through scores of years development, it has become a comprehensive research institute centered on the fundamental research, applied fundamental research and,complemented with the research of high technologies and their industrialization; with the application of Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility, Beam Line technology, Synchronous Radiation Application and the research in relevant fields as main research direction, it carries out the fundamental and applied research of nuclear science which is based on low-energy accelerator and the study of its cross-disciplines. |

Shanghai Automotive Industry Quality Inspection Research Institute, with the expending and technological reconstruction project of which the important content of the R&D area of Shanghai International Automotive City, was set up to adapt to the development of Shanghai’s automotive industry by meeting the demands of certification, quality inspection, environmental protection and commodity inspection of motor vehicles, and, it will become a domestically leading and internationally advanced motor vehicle product quality inspection agency, and one of the R&D centers of Shaghai International Automotive City.
